What Is Agoda?

How Agoda works

Agoda.com and the Agoda app give travelers a network of over 6 million hotels and holiday properties worldwide, according to Booking Holdings (Agoda brand page, Booking Holdings). For hotels and rentals, Agoda is an online travel agency (OTA) (Omri Morgenshtern new CEO Agoda, PhocusWire).

Agoda's pay on a booking, which it calls compensation, is either a percentage of the reference sell rate or a markup added to the loaded rate, and it varies by location. Under the Property Collect payment model, Agoda takes its commission from prepaid bookings automatically, so the property makes no manual payment and sees the amount only on the Finance tab (What compensation (commission) do I pay to Agoda? Agoda Partner Hub). Typical OTA rates are covered under OTA commission, and who collects the guest's money under each model is covered under merchant model vs agency model.

A property manages its rates and availability in Partner Portal, also called YCS, which is Agoda's extranet. The same portal is where the property searches and manages its bookings and creates recommended promotions, such as early-bird and long-stay deals (How do I use Partner Portal? Agoda Partner Hub).

To connect a channel manager, the property gives it the Agoda property ID, the room type IDs and the rate plan IDs, and the connection then keeps rates and availability up to date across platforms. Agoda keeps sending booking notifications by email after a channel manager is connected (How do I connect to a channel manager? Agoda Partner Hub).

Why Agoda matters for hotel distribution

For hotels, Agoda had the lowest rate 34% of the time worldwide, only 13% of the time in the US and in nearly half of searches in Asia, according to RatePunk, which runs a hotel price-comparison browser extension and reviewed more than 198,000 hotel searches by its users from January 1 to December 1, 2023; the data covers RatePunk's own users only (Booking, Agoda or Expedia? A review of 200,000 hotel searches shows which has the best rates (CNBC via NBC New York)). For rentals, Agoda pitches Agoda Homes to hosts as a way to reach international travelers, and 48% of the vacation rental stays booked on it in 2025 were international (List your property on Agoda Homes, Agoda Partner Hub).

So Agoda sells both kinds of stay: hotels list rooms on it, and hosts list rental homes through Agoda Homes. In both cases the rooms, rates and availability on Agoda need to match what the property sells on every other channel. A property can keep them in line by hand in Partner Portal, or connect a channel manager so they stay up to date across platforms.

Frequently asked questions

What is Agoda?
Agoda is a booking service run through its website, Agoda.com, and the Agoda app. Both are available in 39 languages and backed by 24/7 customer support. Travelers use them to book hotels and holiday properties, flights, which were added in 2019, and ground transportation and attractions.
What country is the company based in?
Its headquarters is in Singapore. It also runs a Global Operations Center in Bangkok and has offices in more than 50 locations worldwide. Its staff of more than 7,000 people work in 27 markets and come from over 90 nationalities.
Is it a legitimate company?
Its ownership and history are easy to check. Robert Rosenstein and Michael Kenny launched an online travel company in 2002, and Agoda.com went live in Singapore in 2005 with 7,000 hotels in Asia and 33,000 worldwide. Priceline Group, now called Booking Holdings, bought the company in 2007 and still owns it.
What is YCS?
YCS is the Partner Portal, the extranet where a property manages its rates and availability on this channel; the letters stand for Yield Control System. In the portal, a property can also search, check and manage its bookings, and create recommended promotions such as early-bird and long-stay deals.
Does it list vacation rentals?
Yes, through Agoda Homes, its vacation rental listing service. The company claims more than 500,000 active homes and more than 23 million guests who have booked vacation rentals there since 2017. Setting up a listing is free, and commission rates vary by property location, type and partnership tier.

Where Jetstream fits

Agoda is one more channel that needs the same rooms, rates and availability as every other channel a property sells through. Jetstream builds distribution technology that connects a property's inventory to those channels and keeps it accurate on each of them, managed from one place.
