What Is Booking.com Genius?
Booking.com Genius is Booking.com's loyalty programme for travellers and, on the partner side, a marketing programme that gives eligible properties more exposure on the platform. A property that joins offers Genius members a base discount of 10% (Becoming a Genius partner (Booking.com Partner Hub)).

How Booking.com Genius works
Travellers move through three Genius levels as they book more, and the higher levels unlock larger discounts plus free breakfast and room upgrades on select stays (Booking.com Genius (traveller page)).
A property that joins gives the Genius discount, which Booking.com applies automatically to its least expensive and most popular room type or unit. In return, the property gets special tagging, ranking boosts and Booking.com's marketing investment (Becoming a Genius partner (Booking.com Partner Hub)).
The discount is virtual. Booking.com applies it to the room and rate in its extranet, according to one channel-manager vendor's help article (How the Genius programme works with channel-manager rate plans (vendor help article)).
Commission is calculated on the discounted amount, a vendor point not confirmed on a Booking.com page (What nobody ever told you about Booking's Genius program (revenue software vendor blog, updated 2026)).
To qualify, a property must be open and bookable, with at least three guest reviews and a review score of at least 7.5, though exceptions are possible where the local average score is lower (Becoming a Genius partner (Booking.com Partner Hub)). Partners sign up under Opportunities in the extranet. A property that wants to leave messages Booking.com and cannot rejoin for six months (Becoming a Genius partner (Booking.com Partner Hub)).
Why Booking.com Genius matters for hotel and rental distribution
Booking.com reports that partners who join see on average 70% more search result views, 45% more bookings and 40% more revenue, with revenue counted net of the discount cost (Becoming a Genius partner (Booking.com Partner Hub)). The page does not give the method or the period behind those averages.
The traveller base behind the programme is large. In 2025, Genius Level 2 and Level 3 travellers were over 30% of Booking.com's active base, and the room nights they booked were in the high 50% range of Booking.com's total (Booking Holdings Q4 2025 earnings call transcript (18 February 2026)). Those Level 2 and 3 travellers also have a meaningfully higher rate of booking directly with Booking.com than its other travellers (Booking Holdings Q4 2025 earnings call transcript (18 February 2026)).
Genius is available in more than 200 countries and territories, and its members book more often, further in advance and return more consistently than other travellers (Booking Holdings Q4 2025 earnings call transcript (18 February 2026)). Booking Holdings lists expanding Genius across travel verticals as a strategic initiative in its FY2025 annual report (Booking Holdings Form 10-K for FY2025 (SEC)).
In March 2022, Genius discounts were available at over 390,000 participating properties (Booking.com Adds a Third-Level of Benefits to Its Loyalty Program (Booking Holdings, 31 March 2022)). At the end of 2025, Booking.com listed about 4.4 million properties in total, a count that covers every property on the site, Genius partners and others (Booking Holdings Form 10-K for FY2025 (SEC)). No newer count of Genius properties has been published in the sources used here.
For a hotel or rental, the decision is a trade: a lower price for members against more visibility in search results. The useful test is the net rate on a real booking that carries Genius together with any other discount the property runs, compared with the extra bookings the property actually sees. A property that also sells through its own website can compare that result with its direct booking margin.
